Invited Speaker: 2011 National Strength and Conditioning Association National Conference. Las Vegas, NV, USA.
Preparing the Indonesian Olympic Team: A strength and conditioning perspective. <
>

  • ‘I want to thank you for your presentation at the 2011 NSCA National Conference.  I was very impressed by it.’ Adam Thackery, University of Indianapolis.
  • ‘I thought your presentation was truly one of the best presentations that I have seen at the national conference. This is evidence based information. This is what should be presented at our conferences. This is how we educate the uneducated! Thanks again for the presentation.’Dr Mike Martino, Associate Professor Georgia College & State University.
  • ‘I had the pleasure of attending your talk at the National NSCA conference. The best talk by far this year, it was great to see some of the athlete monitoring you do/did with the Indonesian High Performance team.’ Dr Jason Miller, Assistant Professor Oklahoma City University.

This presentation was supported by the School of Human Movement Studies, Charles Sturt University and sponsored by the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association.

Invited Speaker: 2009 International Fitness Convention, Sydney Australia
Strength Nutrition: Maximising your anabolic potential.

Recently, the practical application of strength nutrition concepts, including liquid carbohydrate (CHO), protein (PRO), both whole foods (milk) and specific PRO fractions (whey & casein), amino acid constituents (EAA & BCAA) and mixed nutrient ingestion (PRO+CHO) has gained popularity.  However, the role of substrate availability to modify training adaptations has been the topic of much debate. This highlights the central question related to strength nutrition. That is, whether acute changes in skeletal muscle protein turnover induced by nutrient manipulation translates into greater gains in lean mass, muscle hypertrophy, and/or exercise performance?  In order to answer this question, Dr Bird shall present the pathway of adaptation model. This model is unique, as it provides a framework for answering some of the central questions related to strength nutrition.
