Where I Live

I am now settled in the exotic location of El Dorado, in North-East Victoria, Australia. Seriously, this town does exist! It has a population of around 250. So is quite small, but has a lovely community feel. Situated about halfway between and 20km from both Wangaratta and the historic town of Beechworth, El Dorado affords me both the space and strong sense of community that I crave as well as access to the usual array of essential retail outlets.

Wangaratta is a rural city of about 15,000 population situated about 240 km North-East of Melbourne and about 75km south of the New South Wales-Victorian border. I say I moved to the Wangaratta district because I have always preferred to live “out of town”.

North-East Victoria in general is rich in Tourist Attractions including High Country, Wineries, Snowfields, Gold-rush era destinations, National Parks, Rivers etc. From El Dorado, it is about a three-quarter hour drive North to the border towns of Albury and Wodonga which have a combined regional population of around 90,000.
