Import/export features evaluation Import/export features include the capacity of the software to:
Term Tree 2000 The Dog's star rating: The importing module in TermTree allows the import of files in MultiTes version 7 or 8 formats, AKA file format and a TermTree tagged text file provided it meets some detailed formatting requirements. It also allows merging of imported tagged text file with an exisiting database, checking for duplicate terms and adding and verifying relationship links during import. Additional import/export modules are available to import and export records management thesauri to a number of records management systems. TermTree can export a set of user selected terms and record fields to a range of formats including TermTree tagged text format, comma and tab delimited, MSExcel and XML format. It is possible to select terms for export in an alphabetical sequence, but not subsets of a list of terms such as non-preferred terms or terms deleted from a certain date. TermTree can also create a series of Windows explorer folders based on selected terms in the export menu. It has the capacity to export of terms to a browsable html format with one page for each term and an index page.
MultiTes Pro The Dog says: "Congratulations - it's a dogonomy!" The MultiTes import feature allows import of text files containing terms and related terms provided they meet some simple formatting requirements outlined in the help menu. Any user defined relationships in the import file must first be defined in the define – relationships menu. After importing the software generates an error log which can be saved to a text file. Small amounts of text can also be imported using the Term - quick data entry menu, provided they meet some simple formatting requirements. Any related terms not already included in the thesaurus are automatically added by the software. Export is available through the reporting menu. Reports generated in any of the formats and selected fields outlined in the reporting section can be exported to delimited text with a range of options for delimiters, html and xml formats. Items selected for export only incudes items within a given alphabetical range. For the simplicity and user friendliness of its reporting and import interfaces and menus, and the fact that the Dog was able to import a test thesaurus into MultiTes easily, but with some difficulty in TCS-10, MultiTes is the preferred software package for its import/export features.
Webchoir TCS-10 The Dog's star rating: TCS-10 allows import files in a wide range of formats. Text files can be imported as a simple list of terms, a standard alphabetical list and a simple hierarchical list. There is an import wizard which allows the user to specify aspects of the text file such as record separators and date formats. Import of files in xml and MARC format is also allowed. The software allows export in text, xml and MARC formats. The export menu allows the selection of fields to be exported but does not allow the export of a limited set of specified terms. This is better achieved through the reporting window. Because of the difficulty the Taxonomy Dog experienced importing a simple text file into TCS-10, it runs second against MultiTes in import/export features. |
