Bali.

After another gruelling flight from Amsterdam to Hong Kong we then flew on to Singapore. From there we finally arrived in Bali, Indonesia. Arriving in the middle of winter the weather was warm and dry.

The first week we stayed in Legian (Kuta) which allowed us to get over the jetlag and acclimatise. Kuta is very touristy, plenty of people, lots to see and do. From there we ventured up the mountain and stayed in a very nice villa in Ubud for six months. Yes, 6 months in Bali.

The Balinese are very friendly, always smiling and willing to talk. After a while we picked up some Indonesian language and before long we were speaking Indonesian to the locals (or at least trying to). Having spent half a year there it's a bit beyond the scope of this simple web site to write about everything we did. Things were so cheap, everything from food, clothes, transport, etc. We certainly did make the most of our time there.

One of the issues we had was the restrictive Indonesian visa policy for foreigners. Effectively we had to fly out of the country every two months and upon our return a new two month period would start. The upside, though, was that we got to see a little more of S. E. Asia each time e.g. Hong Kong & Singapore.

After six months, and the need for yet another visa run, and with the start of the wet season upon us, we decided to leave Bali... for Thailand !

During our time in Bali we made some side trips, including Singapore.
