Offshore drilling harms the oceans

The current disaster in the Gulf demonstrates horribly well that offshore oil drilling is a dirty and disastrous endeavor.
Over the last several weeks we have seen the devastation that oil spills can create. Thousands of fishermen are temporarily or permanently out of work, tourism is seriously threatened, and marine wildlife is gravely imperiled.
This is beach season, but too many of America¡¦s beaches will be closed this summer. We must prevent an accident like this from ever happening again. President Obama and Congress should permanently ban offshore drilling. I appreciate the efforts of groups such as Oceana to stand up against offshore drilling, and I urge your readers to go to StopTheDrill.com to get involved.
