Intro

Dear Reader, this is a mini web site about me, Zoltan Erszenyi, MIT student at the Charles Sturt University. You will find information about my past as well as my work and my musical preferences. I hope you'll enjoy reading it.

Origins

The Cultural Palace
The Cultural Palace

I was born in Iernut, a small town in the Mures county of Transylvania, Romania, into a family of Hungarian background.

I went to a local public school in the first two years, then I moved to Targu Mures (some other spellings include Tirgu Mures and Tg-Mures), a 900 year old settlement, some 30km east from Iernut, to study music. There I studied cello and piano for 10 years at the Arts Lyceum (home page in Romanian). I must have been doing quite well as I was in the 3rd place in the country in my age group. During my studies I had several performances at The Cultural Palace - click to see a 360o tour (or The Palace of Culture according to some translations). You can see a picture of this unique and magnificent 100-year old building on this page. I took this picture during one of my trips back home.

In the meantime I developed an interest in electronics and technology. Therefore I switched to radio-TV electronics and I graduated the Petru Maior University (home page in Romanian) as Bachelor of Electrical Engineering.

The Place Where I Grew Up

If you haven't seen Transylvania yet then you should really include it into your travel plans. Experience first hand what it has to offer. This place really exists and no, there are no vampires there. Really. Smiley

The landscape is stunning. We have there four seasons, each one with its own beauty.

Some people may have only seen hot summer and not so hot summer; wet and dry seasons; or snow and even more snow. My place is different: it offers all these during a year.

There is spring when you can smell life sprouting out of the ground.

Then there is summer. Summer officially starts in June, however the hottest month perhaps is August.

Then comes autumn with its colourful display. The beauty of the rusty leaves cannot be put into words, it must be experienced.

Back in 2005 my wife and I went for a trip to the Carpatians where one of our friends has a holiday house. Next to his property there was a grazing horse. I said to myself: I must capture it on camera. Also, just on the other side of the dirt road there is a stream. Take a look, it has been taken with a cheap camera and it hasn't been photoshopped. Isn't it stunning?

Snowy winter in Transylvanian forest
Snowy winter in Transylvanian forest

Winter sets in around November/December. Although previous years weren't as white as winter is supposed to be, 2010/11 was outstanding.

Lots of white snow as far as you can see. The Sun is bright up in the sky, not one cloud. You step out and the -20oC chilly air bites into your skin. But you enjoy it because it is fresh and you are well dressed - don't get fooled by the bright Sun. Everything is white, nothing disturbs the even, untouched surface of the fresh snow. Not one bit of noise - there are no cars in the mountains, maybe just a creaking branch or deer-troating. It's so pristine you can almost hear the silence.

Probably autumn and winter are the most spectacular. This winter landscape was photographed by my brother-in-law on a holiday trip in December 2010.

As I sit there and behold this glorious landscape, I cannot help but thank to the One who is behind such beauty and harmony which inspired the greates of the artists. (Hebrews 3:4; Romans 1:2)
