As a technology enthusiast it is only natural to find joy in what I do. Not everyone has the satisfaction to do what they like. I am really lucky. Working as a senior IT consultant for a growing IT consultancy firm in Sydney I get to deal with various technologies. Things I do include:
As part of the engagements I work closely with fellow consultants in a number of other areas such as Citrix XenApp, XenDesktop and XenServer, VMware and networking. Although not my mainstream specializations, I enjoy working with all these technologies.
As I mentioned on the introduction page, I hold a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree. In addition I earned a good number of vendor certificates, starting with Novell Certified Netware Administrator (CNA) in 1995, in The Netherlands, Europe. I worked my way up from Netware 3.1x to 6.5, adding Certified Netware Engineer (CNE), Master Certified Netware Engineer (MCNE) and Certified Novell Instructor (CNI) to my portfolio. As time passed I obtained new certificates in other fields as well.
In my position it is a requirement to be up to date with certifications. Here are some of my current and older certifications:
| Microsoft: | MCITP-EA, MCTS, MCSE, MCSA, MCP | |
| Novell: | CNI, MCNE, CNE, CNA | |
| Citrix: | CCA-XenDesktop Enterprise | |
| Hitachi: |
Certified Integration Professional Certified Professional-Modular |
|
| CompTIA: | IT Project+ | |
| Others: |
TCP/IP Professional Certificate The Chauncey Group International - Certified Technical Trainer FoxPro Programmer Certificate BICC BrandRex - MillenniuM Structured Cabling Systems |
In my opinion it is important for an IT professional to belong and be recognised. There are a number of prestigious organizations which provide various levels of memberships, augmenting an individual's professional status. I am proud to be awarded membership of the Australian Computer Society and of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
During my career of over 20 years in IT I had the privilege to work and study in a number of countries. Here is a quick round-up of my employment history:
| Period | Employer | Position held | Country |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2008 - Present | Regal Information Technology | Senior IT Consultant | Australia |
| 2000 - 2008 | IT Global Networks P/L | Senior Systems Engineer | Australia |
| 1999 - 2000 | Elender Informatikai RT | Consultant, Field Engineer | Hungary |
| 1996 - 1999 | Electro Orizont | Network engineer | Romania |
| 1990-1996 | Group Scolar Electromures | Specialist teacher | Romania |
An interesting chapter of my life started at the very beginning of my career. While still attending University, I've been invited by the principal of the high school where I obtained my HSC to teach a couple of subjects. They included computer programming (Basic, Pascal and Assembly-Z80/8086), algorithms, digital electronics and boolean algebra. These were special classes for high school students interested in technology.
To better support my classes I designed and built a couple of computer controlled devices for practical demonstrations of the subjects taught, such as data input/output and multiplexing. They were simple but effective tools built with components ranging from low complexity circuits such as gates and decoders to more complex circuits including the Zilog Z80 SIO/PIO/CTC I/O controller family, connected to Sinclair ZX Spectrum and IBM PC compatible computers. I wrote the controlling software mainly in Pascal and Z80 machine code and Assembly.
Additionally I had the privilege to teach computer security at a local University as a part time job.
When I look back over the past years, it is quite a spectacular change from a prospective successful cellist to ending up in the ICT industry.
